Scott Loyd Warren passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Born on a cold winter day in Ottawa, Illinois, he arrived 25 minutes after his beloved twin sister, Susan (“Susu”) Warren, and four years after his older sister, Diane Wiggins. He was the cherished son of Miles and Bonnie Warren.
From an early age, Scott was immersed in the restaurant world, often tagging along with his mother to Plaza III, where she worked as a bookkeeper. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for food and hospitality. After high school, Scott pursued formal training at culinary school and embarked on a celebrated career as a chef. He spent many years at renowned restaurants such as Café Allegro and Macalusco’s, where he created seasonal four-star menus. Eventually, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening his own restaurant, Scotty’s, where he became known not only for his acclaimed crab cakes and lamb—featured in Bon Appétit—but also for his warm, humble presence and signature high-class comfort food.
Later in life, Scott moved to Rolla, Missouri, where he served as Director of Food Services at Phelps Health Hospital. There, he earned a loyal following among locals, who claimed the hospital food was the best in town.
When not in the kitchen, Scott found peace and joy outdoors—whether hunting from a tree stand, playing golf, riding his Harley, or volunteering at the local NA youth center.
While Scott’s culinary legacy is undeniable, his greatest impact was made in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. In those humble, smoke-filled spaces, over burnt coffee and shared stories, Scott led many toward sobriety and helped countless others find a relationship with Jesus Christ. Through his commitment to forgiveness, grace, and reconciliation, he became a bridge-builder—not just in the community, but within his own family.
Scott was preceded in death by his loving parents, Miles and Bonnie, and his sister Diane. He is survived by his twin sister Susan, his children—Audrey Warren (Miami, FL), Austin Warren (Fort Myers, FL), Jacob Warren (Harrisonville, MO), Joshua Warren (Harrisonville, MO), and Jeremiah Warren (Kansas City, MO)—and eleven grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy, even after a debilitating stroke in 2018.
During the final chapter of his life, Scott was lovingly cared for by his daughter, his niece Angie Baker, his sister Susan, his namesake and nephew, Scott Brown and his lifelong friend Art White.Scott lived one day at a time surrendering to serenity and courage. He was reasonably happy in this life and is now supremely happy in the next. A service will be held in October in Rolla, MO.
