Glen Alan Holmes, known as Alan to those who knew and loved him, passed away on May 7, 2026, at the age of 64, at Meadow View Health & Rehabilitation in Harrisonville, Missouri, where he had lived for the past 11 years.
Alan was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Glennie Lee Holmes and Dolores Ruth Holmes (Headley), both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Grandview, Missouri, and was the middle child of three siblings, with an older sister, Renee Holmes Corrice, who also preceded him in death, and a younger brother, Steve Holmes.
Although his middle years were difficult, Alan enjoyed a full and vibrant childhood surrounded by family and friends. The family took yearly vacations to Orlando and Naples, Florida, along with many weekend trips to Bull Shoals Lake in Gainesville, Missouri, where his father grew up. He loved spending time in and on the water, riding bikes, and playing football with friends from church and the neighborhood.
Although Alan never truly settled on a career, he was no stranger to hard work. From an early age, he worked in his father’s asphalt paving company.
Alan’s greatest gift came during some of his most difficult years: becoming a father. It was the pinnacle of his life, and although he sometimes struggled to express how deeply he cared for his daughter and son, there was never any doubt that they were his favorite people.
In addition to his brother, Steve Holmes, and Steve’s wife, Angie Holmes, Alan is survived by his son, Nick Bowdin of Butler, Missouri; his daughter, Leann Holmes of Garden City, Missouri; his grandson, Laytin Breiner; his granddaughter, Jenna Brownfield; and his niece, Abigail Conrad.
A memorial service for Glen Alan Holmes will be held at his childhood church, Turning Point Church (formerly Blenheim Assembly of God), at 9150 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64138, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026. His brother, Steve Holmes, will officiate.
