George Allen Parry Jr

May 18, 1940 — December 17, 2020

George Allen Parry Jr., 80, passed away on December 17, 2020, in Olathe, KS, after a long battle with kidney disease.

Born on May 18, 1940 in Oakland, CA, to George Allen Parry and Adele Fletcher, George was better known as Skip, a nickname he received as the toddler son of a naval officer.

Skip graduated from Oakland High School in 1958 and after a brief stint in the Navy, he started his career as a truck driver, which he continued for 20 years. At that point, the physical demands of driving a truck led him to pivot to follow in his father's footsteps as a carpenter, designing and installing cabinetry for many including Intel and MC Hammer.

Skip married Lori Parry on Valentine's Day of 1985 in Redwood City, CA. Lori, a widow, had one daughter, Kelly Parry, to whom Skip promptly became "Dad."

Skip was best known for his quiet but goofy humor, his love of Monty Python and the Police Academy movies, his talent as a woodworker, and his love for his family. Although he never fathered children of his own, his love for his wives' children was fierce and unconditional.

Skip is survived by Kelly Parry - daughter, of Lawrence, KS; sons Darryl Root of Utah and Loni Parry of Idaho from his marriage to Sue Root; as well as their children and grandchildren. Until October 4, 2023, he was also survived by his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Lori.

Skip is preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as Dean Parry, his brother who died of aplastic anemia at the age of 5.

The service for Skip Parry was a private Zoom service in January of 2021. His ashes will be scattered with those of his wife and their pets at a date to be determined.

Memorial donations can be made in Skip's name to your local Humane Society or the Trevor Project.
