Gary James Dahn

July 11, 1963 — March 2, 2024

Passed Peacefully Into Eternal Rest March 2, 2024
Gary was born in St. Paul, MN to James (Jim) and Margaret (Peggy). Peggy and the
boys, Gary and his younger brother Roger, moved to the Kansas City area when the
boys were young. Eventually they moved to Stillwell Kansas where Gary attended the
original Blue Valley High School.

He was a volunteer firefighter with the Stillwell Fire Department and later in a position
with the Monticello Fire Department. He also worked in the Johnson County Dispatch
center.

From the time he was a child he was interested in bowling, meeting many of his life-long
friends in the Junior bowling programs in area bowling centers, especially King Louie
West. He bowled in tournaments around the country, was a PBA member for a time,
and bowled over thirty 300 games and numerous 800 series as well. He participated in
27 National Open Tournaments with many of the same team members for most of those
years. He also recently bowled in the Scottish Open while traveling as a driver with the
USAAI group as a driver in Scotland in July of 2023.

Many of the friends he bowled with also played softball together for many years.
Gary also enjoyed being an umpire for youth and high school baseball and softball
games. Because of that experience he was asked to umpire a game in the Netherlands
while traveling as a driver with the USAAI excursion to Amsterdam in June of 2023.
He also played golf and had improved his game significantly over the last several years.
He had to, he got tired of Dena beating him and getting ribbed by the guys at the golf
course!

GFD, a nickname given to him by his friends at Falcon Vally Golf Course, or GMFD as
he was also called, had a large and diverse circle of friends, and never met a stranger.
He was almost always happy and full of energy, friends and strangers enjoyed the
upbeat attitude he radiated out to those around him.

Gary is survived by his daughter Katy (Cody); his son Alex (Madison); his brother Roger
(Kristine); his grandsons Liam, Landon, Kruz and Noah; numerous nieces and
nephews; aunts and uncles; and his stepmother Patricia.
Gary has shared the last six years of life and love with Dena Fischer. They both enjoyed
bowling, having met at Olathe East, playing golf, and traveling together as well as
spending time together and hosting gatherings with friends and family at their home in
Shawnee.

Gary Dahn passed peacefully, surrounded by family at Kansas City Hospice House on
March 2, 2024 at the age of 60.

Gary lived life fully, as long as he was able. That is how he will be remembered.
