Edie Monica LaVelle, 49, of Eldon, Missouri, was born on Sunday, August 1, 1976, at 6:42 a.m. to Eddie and Nancy LaVelle at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at 10:50 a.m. at Research Medical Center after a three-day fight for her life in the ICU, following an auto accident south of Freeman, Missouri, on November 11, 2025, at 12:33 p.m.
She is survived by her son, Atticus Rutledge; her father, Eddie LaVelle, and stepmother, Susan LaVelle; her mother, Nancy LaVelle-Lonon, and stepfather/bonus dad, Gary Lonon; her brother, Charles LaVelle, and his wife, Mandy LaVelle, and their children, Lyza Jane and Cecil Wayne LaVelle; and her sister, Cary Lonon, and her children, Cash and Nova Harper; her stepbrother Jared Wright and his wife, Angela Wright and his children Harley and Dillon Wright; and her stepbrother Travis Wright and his children Jack and Evan Wright; and her stepbrother Max Lonon and his wife Carly Lonon. She is also survived by many other family members and loved ones.
During her time on earth, Edie was known for her outgoing nature and her extraordinary passion for art and fashion. Her style was uniquely her own, vibrant, bold, and unmatched. She achieved many things she set her mind to, from serving as the captain of her high school drill team to putting herself through cosmetology school while waiting tables at a local restaurant.
She went on to marry and, after being told she could not conceive, defied the odds and gave birth to her beloved son, Atticus. Determination was a defining trait of hers, very little stood in her way once she set a goal.
Edie was also the proud owner of a successful salon in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, which she wittily named Planet Hair. She trained many stylists who later built thriving careers of their own. She was well-known throughout Kansas City and surrounding areas for her exceptional talent as a cosmetologist, and she was even hired to do hair and makeup for multiple local television commercials.
Edie loved animals deeply and is survived by her dog, Penelope, who has been taken in by close family and will continue to be loved and cared for.
Although life presented her with challenges in recent years, Edie consistently leaned on her positivity, grit, integrity, and her unwavering love of family. Even in the darkest of times, she carried herself with resilience and a defiant spirit that refused to let hardship extinguish her light. She was a beacon of hope and possessed a fighting spirit like no other.
Edie will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and desire to help those in need. Helping the less fortunate was one of her greatest joys in life, something she did without hesitation, even when she didn’t have much to give. She would truly give the shirt off her back if someone needed it.
She lived with a wild spirit and a vibrant love for life, always willing to listen or lend a hand. Her sense of humor, her ability to bring joy to those around her, and her natural connection with children, especially during holidays, where she always made the kids feel special and seen, were among her most cherished qualities.
Her final days were spent surrounded by close family, shared with laughter, stories, and love. Edie will be missed beyond measure, but her radiant spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her and in the countless lives she touched.
