Carl James Elliott
Carl found peace in his passing on May 18, 2024.
Carl was born to Orby and Inez (Osborn) Elliott September 19, 1939 in Macks Creek
Missouri. Carl grew up with one sister, Clara Jean (Elliott) Crabtree. Carl worked his
teenage years and summers between college at the family business, Elliott Tire and
Motor Co.
After graduating from High School as a Mack’s Creek Pirate, in 1957, Carl attended the
University of Missouri, Columbia. While in college he married, Nancy Lee Hogan of
Lake of the Ozarks. Carl and Nancy lived in Jefferson City as Carl finished school at
MU. They then moved to Macks Creek as Carl taught business subjects. Their
daughter, Leah, was born Nov. 25, 1961. Carl and Nancy divorced in 1965, and were
supportive co-parents for Leah.
Carl taught school at Macks Creek for a few years and in Kansas City before returning
to Columbia in 1967. Here, he worked for Missouri Farmer’s Association, Inc. until 1981.
Carl often reminisced of the good friends he made there and at his employment at
Walmart (for 20 years) in Columbia and Osage Beach.
Through the years, Carl had always loved a good laugh. He often corresponded with
friends and sent jokes or funny cards. He also loved a good card game of Pitch. At
times in his life, his hobbies included: raising animals (rabbits, mice, ducks, and more),
painting, and antiquing. He valued his connection to Jesus through the Macks Creek
Baptist Church and the 3ABN network.
As Carl aged, health problems took him to Raymore, Missouri to be close to his family:
daughter, Leah; son-in-law Matthew Sapp; and grandsons Lukas Elliott Sapp and Jacob
Elliott Sapp (who married Nichole Mullis). Carl’s hobbies became a bit simpler with
growing beautiful flowers, birdwatching, and studying bible prophecy. He also loved a
good reality tv show. Carl never missed sending a birthday card to family, including a
nephew, Chris Crabtree; Chris’ wife, Felicity: and their children, Elliott and Cienna. Carl
spent the last 6 years of his life at the same home as his family in Peculiar, Missouri.
Carl happily supported many charities. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to
KC Hospice who supported Carl at the end of his life (KCHospice.org/donate), the
Jerusalem Prayer Team (jerusalemprayerteam.org) or the Macks Creek Baptist Church.
