Larry Alan Burgess, 84, passed away peacefully at home after a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Peculiar, MO on October 22, 2026. He was born December 1, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Glen L. and Waltrude A. Burgess.

Larry graduated from Grandview High School, Class of 1961, he served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966. He worked at MGE for 35 years and Jim Fahey Construction for 13 years. He married his wife of 62 years Peggy Van Gordon on August 23, 1964, and they settled in South Kansas City, MO.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy. Surviving in addition to his wife Peggy (Van Gordon) Burgess, are his 3 daughters, Rhonda Smethers, Tammy Lapham, and Kimberly Norgren; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 on Friday, October 30th at Southview Christian Church, 13604 Norby Rd., Grandview, MO. Refreshments will be provided. The family would like to give a special acknowledgement to the Belton MidAmerica Cancer Care team and the Harrisonville St. Croix Hospice team for the exceptional care they gave to him.
